Mövenpick Beach Resort Al Khobar is a Green Globe certified hotel

For a number of years now, we have been implementing solid sustainability practices in our company. We are very proud of the fact that this has also resulted in Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts becoming the most Green Globe certified hotel company in the world.

As a Green Globe certified hotel, Mövenpick Beach Resort Al Khobar, is internationally recognised as a property that constantly introduces initiatives with the aim to reduce and optimise its consumption of resources. This includes, but is not limited to, employing energy efficient lighting, reducing water consumption and effectively managing waste and use of chemicals.

Our commitment to environmental awareness is part of Shine, Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts’ Global Sustainability Programme. Shine aims to give back and contribute towards the prosperity of each destination where we operate. The sustainability practices we pursue revolve around three key pillars – Environment, Employer and Social Sustainability – with Education forming the common thread amongst the three.

Mövenpick Beach Resort Al Khobar is committed to being the best in sustainable development and operations. It recognises the importance of reducing its carbon footprint by ensuring that current practices are measured and evaluated, and effective environmental policies are strictly implemented.

The resort integrates its Environmental Management Systems (EMS) for energy, water and waste. On a daily basis, the resort monitors and records its energy and water utilities consumption. Monthly reports are generated to compare and identify opportunities to reduce usage further. Installation of energy and water efficient equipment such as LED lights, dual flushing system for toilets and water saver or aerator for faucets are utilised. Proper segregation of wastes and recycling are also applied.

The resort also sourced 85% of its produce locally, especially when they are in season, to support environmentally positive farming, reduce pollution and combat biodiversity loss. This does not only ensure fresher food, but also provides an important investment in the local economy, protecting the Kingdom’s food heritage.

Furthermore, staff and management regularly undergo training to increase their knowledge in sustainability issues and develop their skills in managing the resort’s sustainability.
